Samsung to Include New Elrond Blockchain Game in Galaxy Store

The developer of Elrond blockchain network has announced that its upcoming Battle of Elrond game will be available in the Samsung Galaxy store. The game is scheduled to be released by the end of March, 2020. Players of the game will be able to earn ERD tokens as a reward.

Battle of Elrond will be a Diablo-style action-RPG with an overhead view.

The teaser trailer of the game shows players selecting items and using them to defeat monsters.

Although this footage does not show PvP, the developer refers to Battle of Elrond as a “5v5 multiplayer game.” This implies that there will be some kind of team-based competitive element to the game.

Samsung and Elrond

Samsung first ventured into the blockchain and crypto world in March, 2019. At that time, it released a version of its flagship product, the Samsung Galaxy 10, that included a crypto wallet preinstalled.

In November, Elrond reached a deal with Samsung to include its ERD token in this preinstalled wallet.

This new deal means that Galaxy 10 users will be able to earn ERD from Battle of Elrond and store these tokens directly on their phones.

Elrond network

The Elrond network is a smart contract platform currently in development. It is intended to allow blockchain games and other Dapps to scale to millions of transactions per second.

Elrond uses a consensus protocol based on Algorand’s PPoS (Pure Proof of Stake). It also uses sharding to speed up transactions and reduce consensus group selection time.

Because of its use of sharding and other technical differences, the Elrond developer refers to its protocol as Secure Proof of Stake (SPoS) instead of PPoS.

In testing, Elrond has achieved 10 thousand transactions per second with only 10 nodes. This is in contrast to the 15 transactions per second throughput reported by the founder of Ethereum.

Elrond release phases

Elrond is slated for release through a series of phases. Here is the expected timetable and details of each phase.

Phase 1: Inception (Q1 2020) – Private test network. Launch of Battle of Elrond.

Phase 2: Fundamentals (Q1 2020) – Public testnet. Elrond Dapp store. Elrond wallet

Phase 3: Mainnet launch (Q2 2020) – Token swap. Payment gateway.

Phase 4: Expansion (Q4 2020) – Ecosystem fund. Digital card integration. Identity system.

Until the mainnet launch is complete, players of Battle of Elrond will receive Ethereum ERC-20 Elrond tokens as rewards. After the mainnet launch, players will receive native Elrond tokens that are not part of the Ethereum network.

Players who earn tokens before the Elrond launch will be able to swap their old tokens for new ones during a post-launch phase.

What do you think of Elrond network and the Battle for Elrond game? Will this inclusion in the Samsung Galaxy Store lead to greater adoption of cryptocurrency in the future? Or is this unnecessary because we can already run Dapps on our phones using Metamask?
