Neon District Announces Launch Delay to Summer 2020

neon district season 1 delayed

Neon District has arguably one of the most hyped upcoming blockchain games. In a recent message from Marguerite deCourcelle, CEO of Blockade Games, the company announced that it will be delaying the upcoming launch:

Dear Blockade Games Community,

Making great games takes time. Making a great game that showcases the best features of blockchain has never been accomplished before.

We've worked and iterated nonstop on our game design, combat, art, story, and blockchain interactions since we published the white paper two years ago. We've made incredible strides since January 2018. We're unabashedly proud of how far we've come and are keenly aware of how much more needs to be done.

Considering how much we've accomplished and how much we have yet to do, we regret to announce a delay in the shipping of Neon District due to unforeseen circumstances. With critical members of our team experiencing individual hardships from hospitalization to family health issues in conjunction with an extremely tight budget, we've missed a few milestones necessary to hit our targeted ship date.

After much consideration, and at the request of our development team, we are going to allow ourselves ample more time to complete the remaining critical pieces to ensure a successful public launch.

We've accomplished a great deal so far. We have built our entire blockchain game infrastructure, including the transfer gateway, fulfilling the free-to-play and play-to-earn ethos within Neon District. All Season One playable characters and art assets are designed and are being integrated into the game. Our special effects and animation pipelines are nearly complete, and you'll start seeing fully customized characters come alive over the next few builds. Our mission system and inventory are nearing completion as well. Lastly, our web portal is feature-complete and ready for mass-market use.

Our remaining critical pieces are primarily significant updates from feedback provided by our community during Season Zero. We've listened to the Founders feedback, and we're making some powerful iterations on: environments, enemies, and mission givers, as well as our comic interstitials and storyline transitions. We are also entirely upgrading our battle system, which is significantly reworked and improved for a much more dynamic and enjoyable experience. Lastly, we are building a 3D landscape map of the city to enhance the depth and story-building within Neon District.

The entire team is confident and passionate, and we're pulling out all the stops to make this game the best that it can be. We're hunting for some extra resources to achieve these goals which we know everyone will love. Quality products drive our brand, so stay tuned for all the upcoming updates as we show what an amazing experience a mainstream blockchain game can be for all players.

We're very excited about Neon District and the immense amount of work that has been poured into its development. We cannot wait to release this game publicly.

Thank you all for being a part of the ride with us, we appreciate all of your support.

Please feel free to message us in discord, the Founders forum, or by email with any comments or concerns.

Moving forward we're looking at a mid-summer release date, with internal builds shipping weekly for feedback from now up until the new public release date.

Our goal is to deliver on the highest quality experience possible, and we hope that you will continue to join our efforts in making Neon District a reality.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Marguerite deCourcelle

CEO Blockade Games

The current steam page states July 1 2020 as the launch date but we will find out when we arrive.

This is totally acceptable in our book. Blockchain gaming is in such early stages that it will be good to see some of these major releases come out as polished as possible to give fans confidence in the tech.

We stand by their decision.

Hell, even major companies like Blizzard recently had to delay the launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged for similar reasons – they just want to get it right.
