Immutable’s blockchain trading card game, Gods Unchained, has launched Mortal Judgement, the third and final major expansion set of Season 1: Champions Rise. The lore unfolds to set the stage – the gods are chained, mortals have been thrown into chaos and humanity is on the brink of war.
Mortal Judgement follows the champions of the gods as they navigate this new world. Gods Unchained focuses on competitive play, where players strategically outsmart their opponents by building decks that are able to combat a wide variety of tactics.
This expansion set of 190+ cards vividly captures the upended state of Eucos (the sprawling mortal realm of Gods Unchained) and introduces new game mechanics and keywords.
Cards are available for purchase in $ETH, $GODS, and $IMX, or with USDC via Moonpay.
Since launching the beta in 2018, Gods Unchained has quickly gained stature as one of the more established free-to-play trading card games. Its mission is to enable players with complete ownership of their in-game assets via NFTs.
Anyone participating in its ecosystem has the freedom to trade, sell, and use their cards within or beyond the game – just like owning real, tangible cards. “Like a bridge between the virtual and physical world, NFTs provide our users and us with a transparent and immutable way to assign, verify, and maintain ownership.
The result? The ability to create a vibrant game that rewards both the developer and the player, building functional relationships between game and player that were not previously possible,” says Kelsey Gamble, Head of Community at Gods Unchained.
Data attests to this value creation. As of July 2021, Gods Unchained garnered a community of over 4,50,000 registered players and collectors, with 8,80,000 unique in-game trades resulting in a whopping $23M of trading volume between player to player.
Suffice to say, Immutable has compiled a world-class team at Gods Unchained, led by former Game Director of Magic: The Gathering Arena, Chris Clay, and laid down the foundations of a game with the tools necessary to bring blockchain technology to the masses, introducing mainstream players to a new type of game in turn.
The future of blockchain gaming has never been more appealing.
NFT card games continue to be one of the best use cases in NFT gaming. Player owned cards, scarcity, and the ability to sell on a marketplace will be a trend that continues to rise in the coming years.
Over time, we could even see interoperability with other games considering all assets are blockchain based.
