Gala Games recently teased “Project Saturn” which has now been revealed as a Battlestar Galactica Blockchain game, in 4x strategy MMO style.
“Project Saturn” is in fact a Battlestar Galactica-themed blockchain game! The game is planned to take place within the world of the legendary re-imagined series which aired for four seasons from 2003–2004 on Syfy. All the features and systems that we originally presented as “Project Saturn” are actually planned for this Battlestar Galactica game, being developed by Revolving Games in collaboration with Gala Games and Universal Games and Digital Platforms.
4X (abbreviation of Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) is a subgenre of strategy-based computer and board games, and include both turn-based and real-time strategy titles. The gameplay involves building an empire. Emphasis is placed upon economic and technological development, as well as a range of military and non-military routes to supremacy.
The gameplay from the Battlestar Galactica blockchain game will happen in the same universe as the re-imagined series, roughly 40 years after the First Cylon War. Each Cylon attack that initiates the start of a new season will create a slightly different set of circumstances that survivors will need to adapt to and plan accordingly.
Each colony will have its own levels of governance, technology and militarism. These alliances will need to actively coordinate and strategize to decide the outcome of each season.
Their announcement post does not quite make it clear how NFTs or web 3 elements will factor in. After announcing GRIT launching on the Epic Games store, the Gala Games team will have a lot of hype to deliver on.
It is also unclear if there will be any level of interoperability between games developed by Go Gala or their partners, but it seems that would likely be the case if blockchain is implemented. That should be a major selling point in my opinion.
